NATC Batangkalu - Students from Dian Harapan Elementary School of Makassar experienced an inspiring educational adventure during a field trip to the National Agricultural Training Center of Batangkaluku. The visit was designed to provide the students with an in-depth insight into the importance of agricultural in everyday life, and how modern farming is being operated.

More than 42 students from Dian Harapan Elementary School of Makassar, accompanied by their teachers, headed to the National Agricultural Training Center of Batangkaluku with excitement and enthusiasm. They were given the rare opportunity to see for themselves various practices of modern agriculture, from cultivation techniques to the utilization of technology in farming.

Introducing the world of agriculture from an early age is one of the programs of the Ministry of Agriculture, in which the Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman once said that “farming skills can be an asset in the future. For this reason, the Agriculture Goes to School (AGS) program is very important as a learning material,” said the Minister.

Meanwhile, the Head of Agricultural Counseling and Human Resources Development Agency, Prof. Dedi Nursyamsi explained, “all the educational, training, and counseling activities will support the growth of millennial agricultural entrepreneurs, one of them is by supporting the Agriculture Goes to School Program”.

“Agriculture Goes to School”, said Dedi, “is an effort to introduce agricultural to Indonesia's millennial generations, and to attract their interest to work in the agricultural sectors,” he said.

The field trip event involved various activities, including visits to the experimental fields, demonstrations of modern agricultural equipment’s, and discussion sessions with the Widyaiswara. These students also had the opportunity to participate in practical activities, such as planting hydroponic plant seeds and viewing various crop introductions at NATC Batangkaluku.

“We are very delighted to see the enthusiasm of our students in participating in this field trip. They not only gained new knowledge about agriculture, but also gained valuable experience that would help them in understanding the importance of agriculture to fulfilling the food needs of the community,” said Widuri Rumjati, one of the accompanying teachers.

The visit not only provides students with a practical understanding about agriculture, but also inspires them to consider a career in the agricultural sector or other related sciences. It is hoped that this visit will be a starting point for students to deepen their knowledge of agriculture and their contribution in developing the agricultural sector in the future.

One of the accompanying teachers of Dian Harapan Elementary School of Makassar, Widuri Rumjati stated, “We are proud to see the passion and enthusiasm of our students in participating in this field trip. We hope this experience will be a starting point for them to understanding and appreciating the importance of agriculture in our lives.”
