Ministry of Agriculture Will Hold TOT on Food Emergency Anticipation Targeting Babinsa and Agricultural Counselors

Jakarta - The Agricultural Counseling and Human Resources Development Agency (ACHRDA) of the Ministry of Agriculture is ready to hold a Training of Trainers (ToT) entitled "National Food Emergency Anticipation Movement" for Widyaiswara, Lecturers, Teachers, Agricultural Counselors and Village Management Senior (known as Babinsa) on May 2-4, 2024.

This activity was intended to improve participants' understanding in increasing rice production through optimization of swamp land and pumping in rain-fed paddy fields, as well as utilization of plantation land for upland paddy. This is being done through the National Food Emergency Anticipation Movement.

Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman has said on many occasions that the sector that is most prepared to build a better life for Indonesia, tomorrow as well as in the future, is the agricultural sector and human resources are the backbone that drives its development.

"A food crisis is the same thing as a security and political crisis. Food is our weapon, and we must suppress imports, we even must be able to stop imports. We must export," he said.

"The agricultural human resources, starting from the Counselors to the farmers, must move immediately to take part in maintaining food security," he continued.

Meanwhile, Head of the Agricultural Counseling and Human Resources Development Agency (ACHRDA) Dedi Nursyamsi, in the Press Conference of the ToT on the National Food Emergency Anticipation Movement, said that rice is one of the strategic commodities. The high demands of the community for this commodity must be anticipated by boosting production to meet domestic needs.

“The key in the National Food Emergency Anticipation Movement is to increasing production. Therefore, all resources and support need to be focused on increasing production in the ongoing and upcoming planting seasons,” said Dedi during the online Press Conference before the implementation of the ToT, Tuesday (23/4/24) in Jakarta.

Dedi also said that the Ministry of Agriculture has been implementing a holistic approach in supporting rice cultivation, including maize.

“Support for facilities and infrastructures is aimed at the process of upstream to downstream, from field preparation to the processing process. In each of these processes, efforts to improve the capacity of human resources also continues,” he said.

Dedi also hopes that through this ToT event, there can be synergy to improve the quality of agricultural training activities, which indirectly contributes to the development of sustainable agriculture in Indonesia.

The activity, which will take place for three days on May 2 - 4, 2024, will be held in face-to-face at the National Agricultural Training Center of Binuang and simultaneously online at the TIUs of Agricultural Training, Offices of Provincial and Regency of Agriculture Departments, Agricultural Counseling Centers (ACC), and Offices of the Military Sub-district Command throughout Indonesia.

This event will be attended by 120,641 participants, consisting of 187 Widyaiswara, 262 Lecturers, 70 Teachers of UPT of Agricultural Education, 24,607 Civil Servant Agricultural Counselors, 12,480 Agricultural Counselors of GEWA, 1,385 Agricultural Counselors of Government Casual Employees, 8,775 Agricultural Counselors of Regional Casual Employees, and 72,875 Babinsa.

Of these, 100 participants participated in training face-to-face, consisting of 12 Widyaiswara, 4 Teachers, 64 Agricultural Counselors, 16 Babinsa, and 4 Lecturers.
